Overview
Welcome to the first MATLAB workshop at the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC) – two afternoon hands-on workshops combined into one training event. We will cover everything you need to get started with parallel computing with MATLAB and using MATLAB on the HPC systems of the VSC.
On the first day, we will introduce you to parallel computing with MATLAB so that you can solve compute- and data-intensive problems using multicore processors, GPUs, and computer clusters. By working through common scenarios to parallelize MATLAB algorithms, you will gain an understanding of parallel computing with MATLAB and learn about best practices.
On the second day, you will learn how to access the HPC computing environment and clusters from VSC. We will demonstrate how to access these clusters, submit jobs, fetch results, and introduce best practices using MATLAB and performing parallel computing on HPC systems.

For both days, basic knowledge of MATLAB is required.
For the second day, attending the first day is strongly recommended.
Target audience
Course for academia, industry, and public administration.
This training event is especially targeting scientists who are working with computationally intensive problems or big data and want to speed up their MATLAB code through parallel computing on HPC environments such as the VSC.
Course format
This course will be delivered as a LIVE ONLINE COURSE (using WebEx).
Hands-on labs
On the first day, the workshop will be done using MATLAB Online – available via your browser. You will be provided with workshop accounts for accessing MATLAB Online and all course material will be pre-loaded onto MATLAB Drive – the cloud storage space on MATLAB Online.
On the second day, for the hands-on sessions, the HPC resources of VSC will be used – you will get a temporary user account on the VSC systems and login via the VSC Jupyterhub that features a full MATLAB integration.
Once accepted, you will be contacted approximately one week before the course with all information needed to have the local setup ready for the course. Additionally, all participants will be asked to do a short PRE-ASSIGNMENT that has to be completed before the course starts.

Prices and eligibility
This course is partly funded by the EuroCC 2 project. Therefore, the course is open and free of charge for participants from academia, industry, and public administration from the Member States (MS) of the European Union (EU) and Associated/Other Countries to the Horizon 2020 programme.

Waitinglist
After the number of registrations has reached its maximum or the registration form has been closed, you may want to send us an email stating that you are interested to be put on the waiting list (vacancies may occur due to cancelations, etc.).
To be able to do the hands-on labs on the VSC please provide your full international mobile-phone number for the two-factor authentication required to login to the VSC systems.

No-show policy: If you do not cancel and do not show up at the course you will be blacklisted and excluded from future training events.
